Unit Title - Conflict

Unit Plan

During this topic you will investigate the cause and consequences of conflict on a variety of scales. 

You will learn about|:
- different conflicts at different scales; local, national and international conflicts
- the pattern of where major conflicts and civil wars exist today
- the global distribution of resources and economic development in order to understand why some conflicts exist
- the cause and effects of a named conflict 
- the impacts of international conflicts with a focus on the European refugee crisis

In addition you will create an inquiry project into a conflict of your choice and present these to your class. 

What is conflict?

​Conflict is:-
•a serious disagreement or argument
•a prolonged armed struggle
•a state of mind in which a person experiences a clash of opposing feelings
•a serious difference between two or more opinions.

Below are some examples of conflicts from local, national and international scales. Discuss and decide which scale category each conflicts fits into.

Take a look at the following websites. They show you where current major conflicts exist and give you details about them.

Glue your copy of the world map across a double page spread. Then on your world map, locate a minimum of 10 conflicts. Annotate your map with details about the cause of each conflict. 

Stretch and challenge - add details on the consequences of each conflict
